Provide your classroom with an unforgettable, hands-on lesson on ecology and the food chain. Your students will dissect owl pellets to study the skeletal remains of the raptors prey and, using a dichotomous key, identify the species consumed. Also construct a rodent skeleton from the recovered skeletal prey. With their findings, students will construct a food web, compiling a summary of the owls diet in order to estimate the diversity of the prey available in the ecosystem.
