The Sun-Mar Centrex 1000-NE is ideal for light to medium seasonal use. It is specially designed for narrow spaces, being only 22.5 inches wide.

The Centrex 1000-NE is a non-electric unit for those with no continuous 110 volt power supply.

A Sealand one pint flush toilet is required for use with this unit (sold separately – search ‘Sealand’ or ‘Sun-Mar’ to add the required unit to your cart).

All Sun-Mar composting toilets incorporate a patented Bio-drum™ which ensures fast and odourless decomposition. Saves thousands of gallons of water, while recycling waste into safe useable soil.

The unit is shipped fully assembled. A one pint flush toilet is required for use with this unit (sold separately).

Seasonal capacity: 4 adults or families of 6.

*Uses little water

*Recycles waste into fertilizing soil.

*No Odor

*Certified & Listed by NSF

*5 years on the fiberglass tank and 3 years parts replacement on all other parts

The Centrex 1000 NE was recently re-engineered for better compost flow to include input doors on the left and an output door on the right. This output door is only open when the drum is rotated backwards to extract compost.

Other changes include a larger finishing drawer, easier access for maintenance, and a redesigned access port which is secured by a catch.

In light to medium seasonal use the Centrex 1000 is typically able to hold compost for the full season, and compost needs extraction only in the Spring.

The Centrex 1000 NE does not normally need a 12 Volt fan for the 4'' stack, but a 1.4 Watt fan is available if required (where a bend needs to be installed in the vent stack, a 12 Volt fan is required).

All 1000 series units are supplied with a 1'' drain hose which should be connected to the 1'' drain at the bottom left of the unit.

Low Flush Systems
For those that want a traditional type of toilet in the bathroom, Centrex family low flush systems are ideal. Centrex family low flush systems are designed for use with a Sealand 1 pint flush toilet. The Sealand in the bathroom is connected by a standard 3'' plumbing pipe to the composting unit which is below the toilet and normally within 15-20 feet.

Electric or Non-Electric
For those with continuous 110 Volt power, an electric unit is suggested. Electric units feature a 370 watt 120V themostatically controlled heater in a sealed compartment beneath the unit. Odor free operation is maintained by a standard 30 watt turbo fan directing air up a 2'' vent stack. If you have no electricity, then a non-electric (NE) unit is the right selection. 12 Volt fans are supplied with Centrex 2000 and Centrex 3000 series non-electric units but are not normally needed for cottage applications, unless the system is used heavily or is particularly subject to downdraft. AC/DC units are dual vented units with both a 2'' and 4'' vent for those who expect to have 110v power in the future, or are running a generator for 12 or more hours per day.

Unit Capacity
Three differently sized units, the Centrex 1000 (batch unit), Centrex 2000 ( batch unit) and Centrex 3000 (continuous unit) are available for use with 1 pint flush toilets. The selection should be based on both whether the unit is used seasonally or residentially, and the number of people that will be using the unit. Typically, the Centrex 1000 is suitable for light to medium cottage use, the Centrex 2000 for medium to heavy cottage use or light residential use, while the continuous flow Centrex 3000 series is suitable for very heavy cottage use, or medium residential use. As with all units, advertised composting capacities can be doubled for short periods.

All central low flush systems are supplied with a 1'' drain hose which should be connected to the 1'' drain at the bottom left of the unit. Liquid output should be collected or drained into an approved facility

PLEASE, NO PO BOXES – STREET ADDRESS ONLY!

Sun-Mar (S) warehouse is 99% in stock.

Sun-Mar ships UPS or Fedex to street addresses only, Ground or Express, from their Buffalo warehouse. Heavier items will ship via common carrier. You will be given the Express option on checkout.

You will get the tracking number to your email as shipment confirmation.

Since HI, AK & US Territories force air shipment, air ship rates will be applied to your order.
There is no flushing on the non-electric (NE) composting toilets, the waste drops directly into the composting drum. The process of composting really needs no electricty, since it is bacteria and oxygen powered. The drum is tumbled once or twice a week with the attached handle to oxygenate the compost.

The electric units have a heating element and fan built in that evaporates excess moisture and circulates air to aid in the composting process. The non electric units use an evaporation tray, but also have an overflow drain fitting for excess liquid. The non-electric units require a bigger (4”) vent stack to facilitate the chimney effect of the natural drafting.

The vent kits included in the shipping carton are sufficient for installation in most single story buildings. If more is needed they are normally easy to find. All vent pipes are thinwall PVC.

For more vent stack installation information, go here: http://www.sun-mar.com/insta_cent_vent.html

Toilet Installation
The second main task of installing a central unit is the waste piping installation. Go here for full information on how to do this: http://www.sun-mar.com/insta_cent_pipe.html

Electrical
All electric units are supplied with a power cord and pre-molded plug which connects to a standard (3) pin 115 Volt outlet and powers both the fan and heating element. 12 Volt fans for non-electric models can be installed in-line with the stack, and connected to a battery which draws from an alternate source of energy, such as a solar panel. Drains Central units are all fitted with 1" drains, which should be connected to an approved drain pit, container, or other facility. Go here for more information on handling excess liquid: http://www.sun-mar.com/installation/excessliquid.php

Winter Use
SUN-MAR units serve as a reliable year-round facility when prepared for continuous or periodic use during the cold winter months. If you use your cabin only once in a while in the winter, the unit may be used as a holding tank during this time. If your SUN-MAR will be in use every weekend in the winter, or in a residence, the temperature must be kept above 55 degrees F at all times to keep the compost going. Every living organism consumes nutrients and creates waste. To transform waste back to nutrients and complete this cycle, nature uses the processes of decompostition and evaporation. As is often the case, nature seems to be doing business in the best way possible.

That's why Sun-Mar toilets are designed not only to harness these natural processes, but to optimize and accelerate them.

Toilet waste is over 90% water content. This can be evaporated and carried back to the atmosphere through the vent system. The small amount of remaining material is recycled into a useful fertilizing soil.
